Context

Since 2015, Vindom has been the wine bar and Wine Boutique in the heart of Oldenzaal, set up by Patrick after a career in international hospitality. Online there are more than 1,200 wines, orderable by the bottle and delivered the next day when ordered before 4 pm. Customers rate Vindom 9.9 on WebwinkelKeur. The old WooCommerce shop no longer matched that experience or that scale. We designed and built the new webshop on Statamic and moved everything across: products, customers, orders and every old link.

A boutique experience in a webshop that was not built for it

Walk into Vindom and every bottle comes with a story. Online, little of that survived: a webshop that looked like any other, a collection of more than twelve hundred wines you could only browse as one long list, and a back office where the team had to jump between plugins for every shipment. At the same time there was a long-running shop with loyal customers, strong reviews and Google Shopping campaigns. None of that could be lost in the move.

Specific challenges

  • 1
A webshop without the atmosphere and story the shop is all about
  • 2
More than 1,200 wines from hundreds of wineries, hard to search by grape, country or region
  • 3
Shipping labels, reviews and invoices spread across separate plugins
  • 4
Customers, order history, reviews and Google visibility had to come through the move intact
Designed like the boutique itself: aubergine, gold and a story with every bottle

The design draws on what Vindom already is in Oldenzaal: deep aubergine, gold, a classic serif and room for imagery from the vineyard. Each month a winery takes centre stage, with the story behind it and the bottles alongside. Underneath, everything runs on Statamic and Laravel, with a custom basket and checkout. The collection is built around wineries, regions and grape varieties, so visitors can search the way they would ask a question in the shop. Behind the scenes, the team handles every order from a single screen.

Search by grape, region or winery, with filters for winery, country, region and grape that respond to each other, so you quickly find the right bottle.

Every winery and every region has its own page with a story, its sub-houses or sub-regions and the matching bottles. Good for visitors and good for Google.

A large bottle shot, vintage, origin, price per litre, awards and reviews from real customers via WebwinkelKeur. Orderable by the bottle, with gift wrapping as an option.

iDEAL, Bancontact, credit card, PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay and Google Pay via Stripe. Shipping rates per country, with free shipping above a threshold.

MyParcel labels printed on A6, age check on delivery, track & trace to the customer, invoice and packing slip, and an automatic WebwinkelKeur review invitation once the order is complete.

A personal account with order history, favourites that notify you of a discount, an alert when a sold-out wine is back, and gift vouchers.

Products, customers, addresses and orders transferred from WooCommerce, old URLs redirected and the Google Shopping feed kept on the same product IDs, so running campaigns carry on.

A fixed bar at the bottom with call, WhatsApp, wines and basket, and an order button that stays with you on the product page.
